THE FOUR MODALITIES

FOUR LEVELS & THREE DEGREES

THE SEVEN MODULES:

In each degree all four modalities of massage skills are taught in increasing depth, they are:   

  • Asian Modalities:

There are hundreds of methods, styles,  techniques, schools of thought, and trademarked names, yet all fall under one of these four.

Each of the three degrees is made up of seven modules that are based on the seven liberal arts.

THE THREE DEGREES: WHAT IS COVERED IN EACH?

 THE FOUR LEVELS ARE:

  • ASSOCIATE  TECHNICIAN: In which you complete 500 hours and can sit for the National Certification Exam and apply for a State license in  states with a 500 hour minimum.
  • THE 3 DEGREES: As detailed below they are three 1,000 hour degrees, with the 500 hours above applied to the Apprentice degree.

  • APPRENTICE  As the name indicates, this degree provides entrance to the massage trade under the guidance of a master practitioner. It focuses on the historical foundations of the Art and the early techniques of massage. In addition to introductory manual massage skills from each of the four massage modalities,
    Also included here is specialty, massage techniques of Thermal agents, Aromatherapy, Chair, Reflexology, and Pregnancy massage. The graduate of this degree will qualify for National testing and an Oklahoma State massage license.

  • CRAFTSMAN Focuses on twentieth century development of and the “American massage renaissance” and the European rebirth of medical Hydrology. The skills taught in this degree are: Asian: Body acupressure, Cupping, Shiatsu Athletic: Beard’s massage, Killburg Open hand style. Energy: Polarity, Healing Touch, Touch for Health Mind-Body: Proprioceptive neural facilitation, Inkeles, Hofer, and Downing are studied. This degree focuses on medical hydrology, Kneippism and SPA treatments. This degree covers Steam, Sauna, exfoliations, wraps, affusions, ablutions, etc.

 MASTER In this degree advanced skills and deeper understanding is transmitted. The advancements of the new millennium are explored in addition to enriching them by the application of past masters. It focuses on the four skills modalities, utilizing the other six modules for reference and foundation. Asian: Tuina, Thai massage Athletic: Rigg’s technique, Cyriax and advanced sports Energy: Rieki, Ayurvedic Mind-Body:, Esalen, Hakomi, body-centered psychotherapy, Neo-Riechian, psychoanalytic massage.

Directs and gives insight to all aspects of being a healthy student and practitioner. These skills are applied to our clients as well. Consider this an owner’s guide book to healthy living.

This is the most pervasive in that it illuminates and examines in a chronological format the development of the Art, pathology and the manual treatment of disease.

The Art of massage cannot be transmitted through common colloquial speech. The clear communication of any skill requires a specific nomenclature and taxonomy. This module focuses on the student attaining and using this unique vocabulary. The ability to communicate verbally and in writing is an additional focus.

Assisting the student in becoming an independent business owner is the goal of this module. Legal aspects of business, regulatory boards, and IRS requirements are covered. Marketing, sales, client retention and growing a business is included here.

All traditional classical medicine Arts are taught and demonstrated within this module. In addition to multiple styles within all four modalities of massage, specialty massage, non-pharmacological pain control, physical assessment and extensive training in medical hydrology are included.    


07 PROT0COLS  

This module is unique in that it does not contain assignments. Here the student is provided with strict structured algorithm covering the conduct of services and operations of a SPA. Physical assessment skills and specific procedures to determine the client’s state of wellness and to aid in the prevention of disease are taught.

Becoming science literate is the goal of this module. It is done without complex formulas, mathematical proofs or abstract ideas. It focuses on provable scientific facts and uses those indisputable truths to disprove pseudo-scientific claims and quackery prevalent in the massage Arts.
